Thanks Rich.

That's great - I'll get myself a few of those.

When I first started to ride to work I had numerous punctures and thought that the slim inner tubes would be the answer, I went through about 5 of these before I realised I was wasting my time and money, all they really do is cover your bike in green slime, I think the pressure is to high for them to work efficiently (On a road bike)!
Your better off upgrading your tyre and rim tape, I'm using Continental Gator Skins with Velo rim tape and haven't had a puncture for over 3000miles!! will save you money in the long run.

I've had good experience with them on my hybrid so feel like I should carry on with them. Though as you say, not used at high pressure.

Forgive my ignorance but I was unaware that there was varying quality of rim tape. What do I need to know (new to cycling)

When I finally moved away from the slime inner tubes, I installed a pair of Continental Gator Skins to stop road based punctures (Nails, glass etc) but found myself with a new problem, I now kept getting "pinch punctures", this was due to the poor rim band that came with the bike (it goes around the wheel and covers the spoke holes mine was a blue elasticated band) every time I put a bit of effort going up a hill the rim band moved and my inner tube would get caught in-between the band and the spoke hole causing a pinch puncture(once got 5 in one week).
So I changed to the thicker, sick on type tape velo http://www.wiggle.co.uk/velox-rim-tape/ with this combination I get a puncture every 2.5-3k miles if that.

I'm not saying im an expert but this combination has kept me puncture free for ages ^_^

What is rim tape?

If you take the tyre off you will see some tape running in the middle of the wheel covering the spokes, this is the rim tape. It is to stop the spokes puncturing the tube.

I've also had good results with slimes on the hybrid, so much so that I had a nail go through my marathon plus tyre into the tube and I road a further 4 miles home with minimal loss of pressure.
