Hi

I have a 3 or 4 cuts of about 3-4mm long in the rear tyre of my Specialised Allez

A friend has suggested that I change the tyres as we have signed up for two Sportives in February and March and he's worried I will get a blow out

I've got some Conti Gator Skins in mind. Question is, am I running a big risk? The tyres seem like they're in pretty good nick other than the cuts. Should I change both or leave the front one on to wear out?

I did search the forum as i suspect that this must have been answered before but I couldn't find a thread about it

Cheers all

Since its a rear, I'd superglue things up until it properly wears out (you start getting more p'tures than usual) Feb/ March is a long way off and when you do replace shift the front to the rear and buy a new front tyre. If had been the front damaged I'd say bin it.

I had a blow out on my allez elites original tyres a few months back.

proper loud, like a shotgun.

I'd picked up a small (like 1.5mm) cut in the tyre and the tube had popped through it as it expanded under inflation. Got three punctures that night before it blew out.

Buy new tyres or employ a tyre boot on the inside of the tyre. I dont like boots as ...at 120PSI I fear they create more pressure points that will eventually ...also give out.
