after watching the finale of the Tour of Britain i arrived home slightly down, it was autumn and it was dark already. i looked into the gecko viv and saw this...



odd, i thought. the new baby ones i bought last week are in a different enclosure, how did one get here? then i realised, one of the eggs from my adult female had hatched! this is a newly hatched Viper Gecko and is very small... how small?

this small...



i got a few more shots, despite the bad light before i put the little one away in its own little tub.

thank you. i am very proud as this is my first ever hatchling. admittedly, i did nothing... the mum buried the eggs in the sand and i left the area alone once i saw what she was doing.

there are more eggs, so there could be more wee ones.

i'm not sure how many eggs she has laid as i've left her alone in that corner. she can continue to lay every 2-4 weeks, usually a pair of eggs, even though the male has been removed from that viv now - she stores the sperm for later!

well... if she does keep laying there will just be too many! i have 6 others now (from at least 3 bloodlines). the shop i bought the adults from did offer to buy any hatchlings... and several friends want some.

certainly the first 2 are staying with me... yes, only 2.... *kof*
