after watching the finale of the Tour of Britain i arrived home slightly down, it was autumn and it was dark already. i looked into the gecko viv and saw this...

odd, i thought. the new baby ones i bought last week are in a different enclosure, how did one get here? then i realised, one of the eggs from my adult female had hatched! this is a newly hatched Viper Gecko and is very small... how small?

this small...

i got a few more shots, despite the bad light before i put the little one away in its own little tub.

i still don't know the gender of any of the youngsters, including the two 'teens'. the eldest two should be ready to tell in a month or so.

no more eggs have hatched - this could mean that the one(s) laid at the same time as Binky didn't make it, due to disturbance (they need to be kept still and not turned) or that there was just the one egg laid then. if it goes to plan, there may be more hatchlings in the next week or two. i will then face the tough decision of selling the babies!

well... saturday evening i noticed some broken egg shell in the viv. i searched everywhere, but nothing. i also noticed more eggs had been laid, so thought it could be a false alarm and there had been a dud egg and it had broken. Sunday morning i searched the viv again (the viv is a 45cmx45cmx30cm glass enclosure with a removable mesh roof and glass doors at the front. i looked everywhere, but no hatchling.

sunday evening and i searched again, nothing.

just about to go to bed and the nightly check of everyone and a tiny face peered back at me! hatchling #2 is here... and it's a nippy one. managed to get it into a small tub and it's now with its sibling and the 2 slightly older geckos. i have no idea where it could have been, it eluded me on many searches and also survived the feeding frenzy the three were in last night (i only fed after i'd searched the viv as i didn't want any accidents)

no time for photos now... or even a name!

she was a bit stroppy with me when she was near the youngster, but then skulked off and left it, so i put her back in her enclosure.

this is Binky and mum, the baby is behind mum...
