Glad we got smart meters. I programmed my Tesla Powerwall to only buy electricity at the cheap rate. Octopus are always telling me we use 98% of electricity at night and 2% during the day. Smart meters work for us.

yep, we use octopus too, never had a problem, usage/timing data is handy, it's way better than clunky old meters

there are tens of millions installed, unfortunately there are old ones that rely on obsolete comms, they'll need replacing, and then there are those installed where there's poor/no cellular signal, and of course there'll be some that read too high or too low

with so many installed, even a low failure rate results in many people having problems, and it's always the problems that make news

My eldest son used to assemble the old smart meters he was on the soldering line they were put together by anybody they could get the pay was rubbish and the firm with the contract were Polish. Needless to say they shut the factory and took all the jobs to Poland.

Until, apparently, they don’t.

Since moving into my new home 15 days ago I have been on at the energy provider that the smart meter is not working properly. The meter was a replacement for a DTS meter in October last year and I suspect hasn’t wo properly since.

The ALCS is misconfigured and the support team has, until now, wrongly, insisted I need to hire an electrician to sort out the issue. We also have three rates, day, night and heating and one of those, the heating one, is double counting, appearing in bo the day and heating totals.

I finally got someone today who understood the issue and raised it with the smart meter team. Just had an email confirming that they have found issues with it and are trying a remote fix. If that doesn’t work then they will be sending an engineer round.

As I said up thread, smart meters are good….. when they work correctly.

Got my electricity bill from Scottish Power this morning. £554.65 for one month, apparently I used 2400 units for heating according to the smart meter. ! Raised as a disputed invoice straight away. They have come back with a corrected bill of £185.47. They have said that the smart meter sent the correct values, the problem lay with systems at their end.
