Anyone have any recommendations, or suggestions for getting a replacement battery for my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc?
I used to get a couple or three days on a charge with my usual usage but now, with the phone a year old, it barely manages overnight dropping from 100% to around 20-40% in 6 hours.

I can see loads of sellers on Ebay at all sorts of prices, often stating that the battery is unpackaged and not as shown in the photo.

I could do with a battery that will last me another year and don't want to spend over the odds, or too little, and end up with a cheapo battery that has less life then the current one.

Thank you.

What's the capacity on yours in mAh?

You can get them from more reputable sources like amazon and pixmania, but it will cost you more.

I suppose another strategy you could employ would be trying to get one with a bigger capacity, but carefully check whether this is all right in the manual or any other information you can glean.

Mine is a 1500mAh standard BA750 I believe. I don't mind one of the same capacity as it used to be ok when it was new adn would save on any problems it might cause to the phone..

Paying a few quid only would be nice but I don't mind paying more if it was certain to be reputable. It is a bit difficult to tell if a battery is going to last without using for a long time.

They are very similar sales to the ones on Ebay. Not actually sold by Amazon and the ones sold as 'high capacity' are the same capacity as the standard battery.
The only one 'sold' by Amazon isn't even a Sony Ericsson battery and has a lower capacity then the standard one.

I might have to pop into an Orange phone shop or Carphone Warehouse maybe.

Have you gone through the whole "remove all the energy eating apps" analysis first, see where the energy in your phone is being used and by what, having the cpu running a whole lot of apps in the background, literally eats battery life, especially if running wifi and gps all the time.

Try juice defender, task killer etc

Cheers, I have wifi and gps off all the time and only switch on for the duration of any rare use.
I have also just had a look at the running apps and turn off a load. Hopefully I haven't lost anything I need. A restart will sort that anyway.

I don't know if it is coincidence but battery life was fine until the switch over from Orange to EE. The same day it switched over the battery life plummeted.

Have a look on the following link for your nearest mast sites, it may be that that the previous Orange mast is not being used but you are using another and your phone is constantly putting out full power to reach the new mast, if it is further away or obstructed by buildings/landscape.

Try switching to 2g only for a day and see if it makes any difference to battery life as usually the better signal.

Interesting site.

There are two Orange masts about 100 metres from my house, on the the same tower block. One is on the Orange frequency and the other is on the EE frequency.

I will switch to 2g to see what happens, if I can figure out how. Nope can't find 2g.

I have switched off auto sync as well now.

An Update.

I didn't get around to getting a replacement battery as I figured I would get Christmas out the way first before buying other random stuff online. It also gave me time to see if closing software made any difference, it didn't.

However, a couple of days before Christmas my phone battery didn't go flat. It suddenly started discharging at a rate of less then 10% per whole day instead of about 60% in 6 hours!

I haven't changed anything on the phone nor have I changed my usage of it. The last full charge was in the car last Thursday and it has only had a couple of tiny top up charges since then when I have plugged in to the laptop (to download photos) or for a few minutes in the car (to play some music). It is currently at 63% charge.

Hmmmm, not sure I can figure out a reason for this change unless it is EE now suddenly being less demanding on my phone then it was.

I am hoping that battery life stays this good now.

Lithium Ion batteries doe that sometimes just before they die for good.
Ebay is a good place to get an "extended Battery" replacement, just do a bit of research and buy from some one with 99.5% feedback or better. and a mAh of 2600 or more. there are many sellers selling 3600mAh batteries for under £15 including postage

NT - we had something similar with my iPhone. Turned out that the charger we were using in the house was faulty and not charging it properly. With the new charger, I am back to being able to use it as an alarm clock again and not worrying about it being dead yet again in the morning so no alarm.

I've been using the same charger, the laptop, and the car, and the effects were the same.

Nothing has changed in my usage, nor in the charging, and the phone is still running for many days on a charge now.

I am waiting, with some trepidation, for the moment when it suddenly dies, or goes bang!
