I know most of you won't care, but I smashed my best ever commute home tonight!

I just knew the carbon experiment would pay off (see here) and clocked a 00:25:18 averaging 21.8mph! Probably the extra winter training paying off too, but a special mention has to go to the charity cake woman who provided me with a most exceptional slice of lemon drizzle this afternoon!

Had a bit of luck with the lights but surprisingly no tailwind which was what helped me to my only other sub 26min last July. I know in terms of a TT 22mph isn't amazing, but it's a lumpy route with loads of traffic lights (which I stop at) and loads of rush hour traffic, and a big suit and shoe filled rucksack on my back.

Probably a pointless thread but none of my family or friends are bothered and I had to tell someone!

That's a good pace, very good.

Someone has put a strava section near work, only knew it was there as I rode the long way home last night with strava on on my phone. Strava said I was joint KOM for the 0.6 mile flat section, so tonight, you know what happened, smashed it by 3 mph and took it to 23.3 average.. . heh. A ped got a shock though, walking across could see me coming, got to white line and realised I was motoring, stopped sharpish. Felt sick after the section though. Addictive.com

Don't wish to sound ignorant, but I only heard this term yesterday but a coupld of people have now mentioned it... What is this 'Strava' and do I need to be getting myself a piece of it?!!

Oh my... Don't blame me if you get addicted.

If you have a Garmin or similar, or a smart phone with GPS then you can use this. With the Garmin, you upload rides to Strava via your PC (same as with Garmin's training centre/connect software). With a smart phone, it's similar, but you have an app (called strava BTW) which automatically uploads to your strava account.

Basically it's a big database of 'rides'. Certain sections of road can be tagged as a segment - for example a local climb. What the software does is compares all uploaded rides and let's you know how you did on it. This is where it get's cometitive as you go out to beat your last time or to become the KOM (King of the Mountain).

It's good fun !

In between here and there
Depends on what you use to log your rides? If a Garmin you just sign up and upload your rides

Strava is brillant bit of fun, there are loads of segments (sections) that you get timed through and then get placed in to a leaderboard, and if you are fastest you get the KOM award.

Well done on your PB!
