In between here and there
80% of my commute is on the A23 which is widely used by a lot of local clubs, and hence it is full of KOM hunters and @ 47 I am struggling to get in to the top 10-20 lol but in my Age group up in 1st to 5th which makes me feel a bit better even if only five of the ridrs are as young as me. :-)

Oh dear. This might become dangerously addictive.

Cheers for the explanations guys. I'm currently garminless but I'll download the app onto my iPhone and take a peek

Told ya ! PS Charge the phone up before you start. There will be loads of segments on the Wirral. Sign up and take a look. You only have to pay if you want extra stats.

Oh and that bugger that put a segment 400 yards from work - I hate you - I felt really sick having to get the KOM by 3 mph last night !

I just had a look and there's quite a few
Do I need to do anything? If I have the app running and I just ride about, if I have gone through a segment on my travels will it tell me when I get home or do I need to activate anything?

Edit - There are segments covering massive sections of my commute, and there's some pretty competitive times. This is going to bloody kill me! Curse you Fossyant!!

If you've got the app on your phone, and want to record it that way, you need to record the ride, and then save it at the end. If you're uploading from a Garmin, it will add it to your training history. Then the website examines your route and if there is an existing segment that you cycled through it will tell you how you did compared to everyone else.

I only started using it this week, but it's great fun.

Cheers Benb. I'm a statistic monster, so to now be able to have a direct comparison with other riders is going to be be great motivation. I've now got images of me driving to work and home again at dawn just to drop off any excess items that might slow me down if I have to carry them on the bike! The poor CX is never going to see daylight again!

I know most of you won't care, but I smashed my best ever commute home tonight!

I just knew the carbon experiment would pay off (see here) and clocked a 00:25:18 averaging 21.8mph! Probably the extra winter training paying off too, but a special mention has to go to the charity cake woman who provided me with a most exceptional slice of lemon drizzle this afternoon!

Had a bit of luck with the lights but surprisingly no tailwind which was what helped me to my only other sub 26min last July. I know in terms of a TT 22mph isn't amazing, but it's a lumpy route with loads of traffic lights (which I stop at) and loads of rush hour traffic, and a big suit and shoe filled rucksack on my back.

Probably a pointless thread but none of my family or friends are bothered and I had to tell someone!

thats a gooood average, nice one:thumbsup:
I'd be happy to do that...........oh and you have had it now you have found Strava!

Just don't get carried away if you use Strava and you have 'sections' on your commute - it's not good for your stomach xx(
Just got home... 3 strava segments passed through... Two KOMs and one 2nd place by 2 seconds :cursing:

My overall ride home was over half a minute slower than yesterday too so there's room to improve! Can't go through that every day though! xx(
