smoke fire alarms

The fire brigade fixed two smoke alarms in our house about five years ago (fireangel) the one upstairs keeps chirping I took it down and tested it (around 00:15) it stopped chirping and I left it down. Then at 04:15 it went off loud and clear. I checked the whole house, no sign of any fire or smoke. Now I am back off to bed but can any one advise on whether I should just put it back up, replace it or contact the fire brigade who fitted it (for free)

Normally if it chirps then the battery needs replacing. Also, the sensor could be clogged with dust. New ones are cheap enough if you have any doubts.

Yeah whenever the battery runs low on mine a bit of take it out, leave it 10 seconds and put it back in again gives you a few days before you can get a new battery- one of the only things I miss from my old house which was a new build- the alarm ran off the mains with a battery backup.

yep, all new builds these days have to have all the fire alarms wired into one mains ring so they are all linked and you can test them all and reset them all from any one alarm i believe. and of course with a battery back up in case the mains goes out in a fire

Barnet,
As previous posts, change the battery. Mine chirp when the battery gets low, and then when you put the battery back in the alarm sounds briefly to test that it is working.

If the fire brigade are coming out anyway you could always get them to pick up your indian takeaway and maybe run a couple of errands on the way, sure they'd be happy to oblige, they need something to keep them busy anyway as 99% of their day is spent loafing around doing bugger all.

I use rechargeable 9 volt batts. The alarm chirps when they need replacing, and I usually have one on charge anyway. Didn't stop the flipping dishwasher going on fire*, but alerted us to the fact

*Yes, they have an inbuilt sprinkler system, but it caught fire!!!!

Replace it. Fire angel have integrated batteries so you have to replace the whole thing. The chirping is because the battery is low
