What us more unbelievable is that the op found the staff at Carlisle station helpful ........

I wrote down what I wanted, handed it over the counter and give the staff the same amount of politeness and respect as I expect to get. That usually works though some times, you get a person having a bad day or a "job's worth", in which case you shrug your shoulders and keep calm. Most of the Carlisle railway staff are good and helpful but as in all places there is the odd one.
 
The ones I had from the fire brigade weren't standard, I did that not realising, although the battery is standard, the connections were soldered and couldn't be fixed once pulled off . They are designed like that so people don't get tempted to disconnect the battery when cooking and then forget to reconnect. The whole casing couldn't be put back together then either.
Must have been a newer model to mine, mind you it was about 10 years ago, haven't had cause to look at the new ones as they only came and fitted it about 6 months ago :smile:
