You've put your finger on the problem. Talking or texting while walking makes it look as if a person is really popular. I'll never forget the time some years ago when I was on a train and opposite me was a trendy media-type woman who must have just got her first phone because for over an hour she steadily worked her way through her phone book, starting each call by announcing "I'm on the train!" and then talking absolute nonsense. I knew it was nonsense because I was able to hear each word and I quickly realised she didn't actually need to talk to anyone she phoned about anything....
