I just got a brand new Carrera Subway but the only problem is the gears. They seem to take some time to change and change when I go down a curb. Is there anyway I can make my gear changing smoother? If so, how?
What's a thumb wheel? I'm not great knowing bikes. There will be a thumb wheel on the rear derailieur, try adjusting that. Half a turn at a time. It's quite possible Halfords didn't check the bike over before selling it to you.
It's the front gear and I'm not sure what you mean by which way. What's the exact problem, to be able to help you better,
Is it the gears at the front, or the rear, and which way are the sluggish to change?
Depending on the circumstances will determine the fix
It's when I go down gears from 7, as I go to lower gears such as 3 or 2 it changed but then it changed back and keeps messing around.Ok not a problem, we can immediately rule out the rear derailleur

Instead we can say the problem is with the front derailleur

Is the problem that it is slow to change down, ie move into the inner most (smaller) ring or rings,
Or is it slow to move to the outer most rings (larger)
Also how many chainrings are there? 2 or 3?

EDIT: Here's a written guide which should help also Park tools guide - front derailleur
It's not a hard job to sort out job, just a bit exacting. This might help -

I watched that video but none of it really helped. When I change to low gears it sometimes changed back then changes again, it also takes a while to click in.
If I were you I'd learn how to sort this yourself, rather than expecting Halfords to do so.

I posted a new thread which explains it in more detail, check it out as it explains my problem much better than this. From 7 would indicate rear derailleur to me, as in the gears on the back wheel, or are we definitely on about the ones by the pedals that are jumping about?
