Apparently closed for 2 weeks from 15/6. There are repairs being done approx halfway. So in theory the road from Glossop or Ladybower should be quiet and give us the opportunity to cycle to the roadworks and back. No idea if cyclists are allowed through. But from Glossop it's a nice bit of training.

I went up a three or so years ago when they were doing the last set of repairs. Lovely and quiet. The landslide has left the road quite 'lumpy' on the Ladybower side. I came back via Mam Nick, on a 39x26 oof. Must say I don't bother with the Snake much, even though it's local, as it's busy.

There used to an event that was a warm up for the 3 Peaks cyclocross. It wasn’t a race but everyone raced it. Started in Glossop over to Hayfield then up part of Kinder scout via Jacobs ladder to out by Ladybower then over Snake back to Glossop. I don’t remember many cars the time I did it but it was in the 80’s.

One of the occasions I went over, it was lined with spectators waiting for the Tour of Britain to come through behind me, I saw them go past when I was sat eating butties in the bus shelter in Hathersage. That wasn't the only time I've found myself accidentally in a cycle race.

Jacobs Ladder is an old packhorse route, no tarmac and no cars.
