snoods

A friend gave me a snood as a Xmas present last year. I found it very effective in Jan/Feb/March keeping my throat and upper chest warm when cycling. I stopped wearing it in April then found myself behind a tractor which was kicking up a load of dust and straw off the road - and I regretted not having the snood to protect my mouth and nose. Since then I wear it every time I'm out on the bike - even a 4 hour ride in 32 degrees on Friday. As an occasional protection against black flies (I've been known to swallow a good 500g of them on a long ride) or against diesel fumes or just about anything being chucked up off the road, I've found it brilliant. Possibly my best Xmas present ever. I do get the occasional sideways glance from other cyclists - he's wearing a snood in June? - but I really couldn't care less. Is anyone else wearing them in the summer or am I in a minority of one?

I often think would a snood be a good idea. I've lost count this year the amount of flies I've swallowed. It must be an automatic reflex but I sometimes end up gagging on the side of the road trying to cough them up.

I use a buff (?) to cover my baldy head in sunny wx like today

I wear a snood in the winter because I felt the need to I probably kept wearing it till March. Workmates started calling me snood dog, little red riding snood. Etc only a 3 mile cycle tho.

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
I sometimes wear a buff for short periods for special reasons like dust or because whatever hat I've got is too hot, but generally it's far too hot for them in summer.

you should have worn a military snood (I have one bought from an army place) - and answered any such comments with a steely stare.

Buff all the way, especially for those pesky small black flies in swarms along some of our back roads. Good job I’m not a vegetarian:smile:

I've got a lightweight summer snood that I use for strimming (hogweed sap etc is nasty to get on your neck). Never thought of using it on the bike!
