NT and I frequent a particular branch of Cafe Nero in York. There's usually space in a window seat, and it's a good spot to sit and people watch.

Went in on Saturday, and they were frantically busy - lots of takeaway coffee, so we found a seat ok, but the queue was long. NT chose a panino, which the chap put in the toaster thingy. Served our coffees, took payment, gave me the thing with the number on and said he'd bring the panino. He was flying back and forth behind the counter, holding two or three drink orders in his head, very impressive.

I took our drinks, sat down, and we waited.

And waited.

I went to enquire about the panino, and a girl went to look and said sorry, it was done to a crisp! But she'd get another going. I returned to my seat.

She appeared, apologetic, and said that had been the last one of that flavour.... NT chose another....

Eventually, she brought it, said she couldn't apologise enough, and would this help to make up for it - 4 fully stamped up loyalty cards - so that's 4 free drinks:cuppa: . I know that's a cheap way for them to keep us happy, but we wouldn't have stopped going there anyway, mistakes happen, and you'd got to admire the speed they were working at!

Humph, I shall be having words with the two lads who run my local cafe bar, I went in today and didn't get so much as a free mince pie -and after I was so helpful in selling him tape for his fixie too.
They do however let me take my bike in out of the rain and did give Mr6 a slice of cake complete with candle on his birthday, so maybe I won't complain too much.

No, it's definitely the Hoy, which apparently was a small dinghy/skiff/ thingummybob. As in ''How do we get ashore?'' ''Land a hoy!'' (this unfortunately is an entirely spurious etymology)

It's not bad in there.
Nice to sit outside on warm sunny days.
They do some cracking good sandwiches.

It's a shame they are not busier.
Apparently they took the place on the understanding that a bridge would be built over the Creek to the Wharf development.
But the developers welched on that one.

As poetry goes, I've seen worse, it's nicely laid out but doesn't scan very well.
