Why not? The Environment Agency are expecting this tide to be 5.67 metres (18.6 feet) above ordnance datum (that's mean sea level not low tide) so it seams reasonable. Alert details here.

Because mean sea level is like you say, an average. We are currently on spings so they will be higher than neap tides but even so nothing exceptional, hence why matthew is on his way to chester shopping not rescuing his house from the sea!

Maybe it's just defiant behaviour in the face of almost certain catastrophe? Like his dad not moving the car:

"I'll be damned if I'm going to let some mass of water <that's most likely been sent by johnny foreigner> disturb my shopping plans"

Yes but how much higher than datum is the mean high tide there? For 3m to be correct it would have to be 2.7 ish.
Can't find any data. 2.7 metres (8.85 feet) difference from mid to high tide doesn't sound unreasonable though from what I've seen of Welsh beaches.

Looking at the tide table for Llandudno, there's about 8 metres between high and low tide at the moment. And with low pressure and onshore winds that could rise quite a bit.

Yep but thats fairly normal for a high Spring tide, also the low is not that low compared to recent events and the winds are not onshore! Ironically there are greater flood risks in the chester/Dee Valley area...

It's poxy in London right now...soon the tube will be at a standstill and people will mill around, complaining. Cobra will be assembled to develop a strategy as this Capital can't have all those surveillance cameras misted up when there are fines to be collected.
Meanwhile, a tidal wave from the Black Sea, near Romania, has struck the UK with force and caused untold damage, forcing poles apart.
And Prestatyn? Everywhere really, not just North Wales...here's hoping for little damage.
