Why not? The Environment Agency are expecting this tide to be 5.67 metres (18.6 feet) above ordnance datum (that's mean sea level not low tide) so it seams reasonable. Alert details here.

Because mean sea level is like you say, an average. We are currently on spings so they will be higher than neap tides but even so nothing exceptional, hence why matthew is on his way to chester shopping not rescuing his house from the sea!

Yes but how much higher than datum is the mean high tide there? For 3m to be correct it would have to be 2.7 ish.

Can't find any data. 2.7 metres (8.85 feet) difference from mid to high tide doesn't sound unreasonable though from what I've seen of Welsh beaches.

Looking at the tide table for Llandudno, there's about 8 metres between high and low tide at the moment. And with low pressure and onshore winds that could rise quite a bit.

Yes but it is the difference between mean high tide in Prestatyn and mean sea level in Newlyn that is relevant here.

I'm afraid you'll have to look that up yourself. As already stated I don't know the answer.

Yep but thats fairly normal for a high Spring tide, also the low is not that low compared to recent events and the winds are not onshore! Ironically there are greater flood risks in the chester/Dee Valley area...

My best tip-

Block all the inside toilets and drains up (bag of sand in the loo) as when it floods, the drains are flooded and the pipes work in reverse!

Or get yourself a backflow valve installed :-)
