BBC news showed Portland. I was supposed to be diving there today. Skipper of the boat called the dive off at lunchtime yesterday !

How deep before it stops being rough?
It's not about how deep before it's not rough and usually in F4 max it's about 6 m where swell eases to manageable It's about the ability to get back on the boat safely.

It's easy to be flippant and sarcastic -and downright rude - to people when you've never been in their shoes.
If you'd lived through flooding you wouldn't sneer at people being cautious.
In January 2005 I had a conversation with a friend about flood warnings, it went a bit like this
Me - but it won't flood here will it?
Her -no, there's no chance. (she used to work for the environment agency I trusted her judgement)
The following day at about 1am I was woken by the sound of water rushing into my downstairs. I was 8 months pregnant and had five children sleeping.
We were lucky we woke up, and managed to save electricals and personal items, we weren't lucky enough to save the rabbit.
The following months were far from fun. Facing homelessness, complete upheaval and cooking on a camping stove in an attic room.
Every time it rained after that I took precautions against a flood. Then we moved house so that I could sleep at night.

You're assuming everyone being flippant, sarcastic or rude has not been flooded?
Well I would expect a little more sympathy from somebody who'd been through it, but I guess there are some who just wish to be rude regardless.

That covers those being rude, what about those being flippant or sarcastic who may have encountered flooding?
Maybe they all realised the unlikelihood of flooding based on fact, rather than buying in to the hysteria?

And this is nothing compared to 1990 floods on that part of the NorthWales coast. They came very close to the A55 and Kinmel was a disaster zone. Was working on restoration for a long time.
