I see quite a few deer during the year, a lot of red tail hawks lately too  A couple of days ago I saw a huge dead turtle. Back when we were bored teens roaming the country roads we could have taken that turtle to the local bootlegger and got at least two bottles of homemade scuppernong wine and a six pack of beer for it. He liked turtle soup a lot.

No shortage around here: badgers, roe deer, munkjack, polecats (that came as a surprise!), pheasants, wood doves, rabbits ....

Lots of rabbits, a few mountain hares (a speciality of the N Peak District apparently), loads of red grouse (which seem particularly stupid regarding cars) and a weasel ....or is it a stoat? I get them mixed up
The local carrion crows are wise to all this and if you go up the Snake Pass early morning, they are out looking for the previous night's casualties
It is not unknown for dead badgers lying at the side of the road, to find on examination that the badger has been shot, or has been killed with dogs (Badger baiting) - The side of the road is a good place to hide an illegally killed Badger!
I'm always suspicious of the number of dead badgers I see for that very reason.

As a motorcyclist, I pray for the day when DEER learn to cross the road properly  . That is the one thing that spooks me when out on the motorbike, especially in wooded areas with sources of water on the other side of the road.

I agree likewise. Very definitely not all road kills.

Still, serial killers have to start somewhere.

squashed badger between Withington and Walcot on my trip to Wellington last Saturday, just as I came round a corner, made me jump! :shy:

I have a photo album of dead animals, mostly taken while out cycling or walking, including roadkill. Not horrible looking decayed or squashed ones, but ones that show the beauty of the animal that was.

I saw one of the dead badgers on the way back down Priory Lane after an afternoon trip round Richmond Park, London. It wasn't there on the way in. What on earth was a badger doing in broad daylight on quite a busy road?

IF it was really dead, how was it managing to make its way back down Priory Lane after an afternoon trip round Richmond Park?
Also, how do you know where it had been all afternoon, are you some kind of badger stalker? ;)
