Looks good to me, though personally I would be looking at the Synapse disc 105, just seen the 2015 version all black* and under a grand :thumbsup:

*black bikes hide the dirt better

@MikeW-71 had a lovely bike with disc brakes on our recent tour that looked an ideal utility ride - no idea what it is though! Hopefully he can advise.

I should have mentioned that steel or titanium are pre-reqs and I won't get Ti at the price I'm looking at

It's a CX bike and has room for 35mm+ tyres. Tiagra level groupset 48/34 at the front and 11-34 at the back, BB7 brakes.

You can fit full guards, there are screw holes there to bolt them to under the fork crown and between the seatstays. It managed this little load admirably. It did excellently as a light tourer and is great on my commute.
