Dayvo, what's Olso like in winter? Is it very cold? And also, I saw a programme the other day that said at it's widest point, Norway is only eight miles wide! Is that true? They reckoned because of all the inlets and fjords.
After having had three harsh winters in Oslo (and many more in Stockholm) I actively avoid being here between November and February.
In mid-winter, the sun rises at about 9.00 and sets 4-5 hours later!
Temperatures can fall to as low as -30 (the coldest I experienced was -47 (but that was 400 km north of Oslo).
It stays cold until end of April/beginning of May, and then it´s not what I´d consider warm until early June (near to midsummer, just as it´s about to get darker again).
I´m not sure of the narrowest point, but looking at a map of Norway, it isn´t too far from the Swedish border to the Norwegian sea just north of Bodø.
I fully understand why Norwegians (and Finns, Swedes, Russians etc.) have major drink problems. It IS depressing.
But I´m here for the time being - great girlfriend and good job.
