Success at last (at least I'm pretty sure I've found the answer ) - and the answer is, that its a 1957 Mercian track bike - I found it by combing through many websites of English-built frames from around the 50's - 60's era - what styles there were, what style of lug, the frame numbering code etc - and there it is, - in 'JPG 4109' in my previous post just above this one - the number code and placement of it on the B.B. I knew it had to be a British made bike, and something a little bit special.
I'm also very happy to complete one of those "what make is this .. ?" threads - some never resolve , or , if so, the details aren't posted. Cheers to all those who contributed ! - I'll continue with getting the bike back into condition .... p.s. the bike came with rather a nice pair of deep Sansin Hubs on Fiamme tubulars.
