Who all braved these arctic conditions and rode there usual commute..

I did and i am glad i did it was -11 when i left the house this morning and straight away doubt began to creep into my mind but by the time i got to work it was -4 and strangly enough there was not as much ice about so apart from my commute taking me 15 mins longer i had an enjoyale ride in.

I did, but at least here in Watford the roads seem much better than the cold snap a few weeks back with them been dry and all. Also, I saw several gritters in action on across the bulk of the commute Sunday night - 2am ride home curtesy of the annual West Coast line Christmas breakdown - so at least had a bit of confidence the roads had been done recently.

The TV said it'll be -6deg C out there at 9am but it didn't feel near as cold as that when I cycled in.

Edit just checked the Met office; the nearest weather centre recorded 0.1 deg C at 8am, that's more like it. It was only -6 at 3am and I was tucked up in a nice warm bed.

Chapeau to my colleague he just got his bike through cyclescheme and he cycled too. I think he's also discovered the benifits of the road as to oppose the cyclepath, which is 1 and half miles longer.

And my other colleague who sometimes drives to the outskirts and cycles in, other times he just drives all the way; he cycled too, with his 25mm Trek as oppose to his heavier mtb.

It was -3.6 at my house wall where the weather sensor is when I left - probably a little colder than that actually on the roads. Fingers felt very very cold even through gloves, but the rest warmed up quickly enough. Side streets were scarily icy, but once out onto main roads it was traffic and riding as normal. Saw a few other riders around as well, one brave youth without gloves!

I saw lots of cyclists out this morning when I took miniMikey to school. We were in the car though.

-5C when I came in at 5:30am although folk coming later were saying that their cars were reporting -8C. 1 minute faster today than yesterday in the snow.

I commuted every day last week in freezing temps. The difference this week is the black ice caused by a bit of rain. I am in the car this week so far as i can just about walk on the ice never mind cycle.

:cold::laugh: I did it but boy am I cold. My fingers still hurt. And I'd really like it if they would just put some salt on the cycle lanes - mostly I am on the road but the A14 junction is a bit too scary so I'm normally on the cycle path there - not today though - it was a sheet of ice.

Having chickened out yesterday due to it being icy (with a little bit of snow on top) in the morning, I felt honour bound to get back on the bike today. It was cold, no idea how cold, but it felt cold enough. But at least it was dry, so no ice. Well, a little bit of residue from the snow yesterday on some of the off-road bits but that was easily avoided.

-7 according to my weather station when I set off this morning. I've abandoned the cyclepath though - too slippy.

Not sure how cold it was, but I did a 14 mile run this morning and thought my ears were being cut off with the cold wind!

Heck that was cold. Just about defrosted now.
