Thanks blue hills I will have a look in Aldi at your suggestion.

Many thanks

Eldridge.
i should stress that those socks will be a special at Aldi, maybe twice a year, though oftentimes branches have remainders of specials. Can't remember the price, maybe something between £3.99 and a fiver.

Just been out for a few hours this morning, the problem is again feet like blocks of ice, this is with toe warmers one pair of planetx thick socks and sealskin waterproof socks with 3mm neoprene over shoes, don't know where to go next?

Any more help is appreciated

hell you do have a prob. With all that failing not sure my aldi socks will help too much. Out of interest, which bit of the country are you in? Buck up, can't be much winter left.

Thick socks and sealskins inside your shoe? Are your feet swelling slightly as you start to use them restricting your circulation, poor circulation = cold feet. Thick socks and oveshoes should be enough, maybe try lining the inside of your shoes with kitchen foil (or wrap your feet in it before putting on the shoe).

I've started wearing two pairs of summer socks with a Tesco Value food bag worn over the foot between the two pairs. Frozen toes are now a distant memory.

You are in luck eldridge - nothing, not even socks, can hide in the internet vaults:

The Aldi socks, substantially cheaper than above:

http://www.offerscheck.co.uk/heat-for-your-feet-socks/aldi/2015/kw-45/322059

Mine are the black/grey stripy ones - wouldn't be favoured by Cav but when I have them on (with thin liner) I'll be wearing long tights so no-one will see them. It says TWO pairs for £2.99 which rather puzzles me as I thought I only had one pair. By using the thin sock liner I can use the Aldi warm socks a fair few times - it helps that I always have a shower before cycling.

You will see that they have a claimed tog rating. In looking for the socks on the internet I did come across a post on an outdoor site from someone who said he preferred his Aldi socks to some specialist things he had paid £20 for, though I can't be certain he was referring to these

As I understrand it keeping warm is dependent on trapping air which your throbbing body heats up between fibres - you then add a windblock layer. Sealskins socks, from my experience will block wind but won't trap those wonderful warm air particles.

So, I'd look ut for them on a special or remaindered though it is possible that you will now have to wait until next autumn/winter.

Hi Blue hills
I'm in Cheshire so it's by no means the coldest part of the country,

Thanks for the link I'll keep an eye out and give them a try

Much obliged

Eldridge.

Hi Eldridge,
Other things that definitely help:
Don't wear shoes with vents.
Make sure you keep wriggling your toes to keep the circulation going.
Your core needs to be a bit too warm for your extremities to be warm enough.
Pedalling faster than usual ( lower gear, higher cadence) works your legs harder so that warms the feet.
Even stopping for a few minutes, getting off the bike and walking around will help the circulation in the feet.

I was out in the cold yesterday, I had similar layers on my feet as you, but with an extra pair of socks.
Planet X thick socks, walking socks, Aldi waterproof socks, lace up shoes, Planet X neoprene overshoes.
Aldi leg base layer and winter trousers. Aldi base layer top, long sleeved top, Aldi winter jacket and Altura waterproof jacket.!!!
I know that was a lot and my body was quite warm but my feet were just about warm.

Just my $2....

Evanscycles currently have a clearance on and 'Defeet Woolie Boolie 2 Socks - 4" Cuff' can be had for £8.99 (before P&P) with the promocode CLEAR20. so thats £10.98 for 2 pairs & £19.97 for 4 pairs,

Not a bad deal in my opinion. I was gonna grab some myself but i dont really need as i already have some thermal socks and wear a pair of Shimao MT71 MTB shoes for most of my winter riding so my feet are fairly protected against the cold & rain
