Ok, so a month or so ago it was all very well to be pleased to see a bit of rain, but they've had their turn now and it's my turn and it's supposed to be the bleedin' summer and I WANT SOME SUN. Enough is enough. Ok? Someone sort it out. Please.

I was thinking the exact opposite this morning. Forget the News International shenanigans, the misery of the recession, the non-performance of our sporting stars, we should, if not on a daily basis, then surely once a week, give thanks for the variety of our weather and (thus far) the limited extent of droughts and downpours. Riding through Essex and Suffolk at the weekend and Yorkshire and Lincolnshire on Tuesday, it was impossible not to be both impressed and grateful for the resilience of crops that had, barely a month ago, looked pretty darn sick. There might now be a problem with the moisture content of wheat, but once again we're getting out of jail free.

There's a large Somali population just south of where I live. The men going hurrying to the makeshift mosque wearing long robes in the rain look bedraggled. Given the drought in Somalia I'd imagine they're not too bothered.

Didn't we just have a lovely weekend? And the one before? I'm quite liking it this week, but that's mostly because the kids are both finishing school tomorrow so I've been in the car every day running ferrying duties.

Worse even than being in the car today, I'm wearing a ruddy suit today as I have to attend the "leavers' ball" tonight. Recognising that it's pretty minor in the grand scheme which Dell mentions, I'd still take a week of rain if I could get back into my cycling gear.
