Ok guys, here it is-

Used to be my regular ride back when I did a bit of cycling around the hills here. Live in sheffield for most of the year now (uni), so I don't get to take it out much these days.

It's been well-used... lots of scratches/chips along most of the frame, but mechanically still works fine.

Here's the problem----- there's a crack developing in the top part of the headtube. I thought this was just the paintwork at first but chipping a bit of the paint away sure enough shows that the frame does indeed seem to be cracked (see pictures). Maybe there's a way to secure it using some sort of welding/ring combination. I don't know.

With a full repair/frame replacement though this would be a solid bike for starting out or as a backup.

Bought about 6 years ago for ~£500. I'm looking for £200. Any offers welcome!

Any questions regarding the technical specification - just ask!

Cheers.

<br />Do you have any guarantee on it? Some frames are guaranteed for quite long periods but usually to the original purchaser only.<br /><br />Without that it is <strike>junk</strike> probably beyond economic repair.<br />

No guarantee unfortunately. Bought it second-hand (but as-new)...

I was 80% the frame would be a gonner, but then again I'm no materials expert and know nothing about welding etc, ha. Thought I'd put it out there just in case.

Shame really, still quite a decent looking bike, imo. Was ideal for when I was starting out.

I'd be interested on the forks if you sell as parts...though I'll have to take measurements and that first (and of course regarding price)

that is a lot of money for that , some frame builders will replace tubes but that would cost a lot more by the time it was repaired and painted , so either break for spares or contact maker and see whats on offer if not to old .

When I was a kid the head tube on my bike cracked like this. My dad took it to the local blacksmith who welded a strengthening tube inside the head tube. It was only when we tried to reassemble it that the "Doh!" moment hit as we tried to get the steerer through the lined headtube. I was without a bike for more than a year after that as we couldn't afford another one.

If it's an alloy frame you can easily have it tig welded for about £20. If its steel then get it mig welded for the same cost. Your only problem then would be repainting the area after the welding. Good luck with it.
Any local engineering company will offer the welding services ive mentioned

IMHO it's not really safe to use as it is and it is beyond economic repair so I think your best option is to completely dismantle it and sell all the components separately. I reckon that you won't be far off the £200 mark if you do that. Those nice carbon forks will fetch a decent price on their own. I reckon it's worth a try!
