My hamster is quite fat, what is the width of the mudguards (p.s. you don't need to answer)

I would think it's not the width but the effective radius - if your hamster is less round than a tennis ball it should be fine, otherwise the mudguards should be greased before use. Never pre-grease a hamster, it has knock on affects on aerodynamics.
