Hi!

I was hit-and-run-ed the other day, driver has been caught and charged. Bike is mangled and I've taken a few dents too.

Can anyone recommend a solicitor for the claim please? Preferably North Manchester area.

British Cycling use LeighDay. Been good for me so far, but I am not sure if they take on non members. It doesn't really matter where they are based, all done by phone and email

One thing to say, don't expect it to be a quick process if you suffered any significant injury. I am 3 months into the process, saw the expert specialist last week, but given my own surgeon thinks another 9-12 months to recover, I don't expect to settle any time soon. My bike wasn't badly damaged and the driver arranged it to be fixed within a couple of weeks. If you need a replacement bike, it'll take a bit longer

Keep a record of all your medical appointments and take photos of your injuries, the bike, any clothing that was damaged, including helmet. If you need to pay to get to medical appointments or indeed anywhere you can prove you would have cycled, keep receipts for public transport, taxis etc. Also, keep a record of any time spent by others helping you out, and of course any time off work and any financial implications thereof

Good luck, hope it all gets sorted

With the receipts, scan them if possible. Printed one will fade, thermal ones can go black in no time. It also gives you the opportunity to mark the copy for what it was for & when. Without damaging the origional.

My own case took just under 3 1/2 years to complete/settle.

On the plus side, the ctc firm had mine settled in a couple of months. I guess it depends how complex the case is and the amount of damages.

My case isn't legally complex but the injury recovery will take a long time and i don't wish to settle before fully recovered. The only offer made so far was laughable

Thanks folks, I've made an initial contact with SlaterGordon.

(not sure how much I can or should say about this atm)

Classic33 - smart thinking re receipts, will do!

Vickster, fingers crossed for a swift healing and successful resolution for both of us.

I wouldn't say anything much if there's a prosecution pending

What injuries did you suffer? If serious, make sure you see a specialist if possible, rather than relying on GPs. You can probably get private care reimbursed but check with the legal peeps
