You need to know the thread used and the dropout width of the frame.
The new axle has to be the same thread so you can use the same cones and locknuts, and the length has to be such that the end of the axle is flush or slighting inside the outer face of the dropout. A hollow axle will probably be an inch or so shorter than the solid one it's replacing.
