Some motorists eh?....

A mate was at a roadworks with a stop-go lollipop to control the traffic. A "salesman type" in a BMW or Jag pushed through after the sign had been flipped to "stop" so the lollipop man shouted to one of the tarmac gang who gave the car a hard smack on the bonnet with his shovel as it went past. The driver at least had the sense not to stop and argue, as the tarmac guy clearly didn't give a f*** and would likely quite happily have given the driven a smack on the head with the shovel to emphasise the point. There may have been an element of "class war" in the incident, but my mate said it was just about the funniest thing he'd ever seen.
I wonder how many motorists have stopped in such circumstances and ended up propping up flyovers?

Ive long since campaigned for traffic police to be equipped with the latest ED-209 to solve such issues. Cyclists, Motorists, it doesn't care, guns them down without mercy for breaking the rules. Order restored!

Once saw a Maestro Van get lifted up by an automatic bollard in Durham after the driver tailgated the car in front who had paid to get out, the police were quickly there, but the van was going nowhere as it deposited a large amount of coolant and oil on the road, I didn’t laugh.... too much, hopefully the police threw a charge of pollution into the mix as well

I saw a similar thing with a car park that had those little flappy things on the exit (you know the ones that retract one way but not the other)
A guy with a Jag XJ6 tried going the wrong way (despite there being prominent No Entry signs) There was a lot of Transmission fluid released as it eviscerated the gearbox.

There are some entertaining CCTV videos on YT of vehicles being 'impaled' on rising bollards:okay:. Glad I ride a bike.

I wonder how many cyclists will have dodged around the bollards too
Cyclists are allowed through. These are modal filters designed to prevent motor vehicles only hence the gaps in the planters. They haven't got the correct signage in place yet on that one, but the traffic order that accompanies the closure will detail who can go through.

I would suspect to close down a 'Rat Run'.
That's exactly what they are for. Basically, if you shut these down then the motor vehicles will have to use the main roads that are designed to accommodate them and these residential roads are left for the residents. Cyclists and peds also benefit because they can use these roads instead of the main roads that are full of traffic. When they connect enough of these together they are referred to as 'quietways' and are a much nicer way to get around London on a bike than a segregated cycle lane on a busy road.

Many years ago my wife's aunt pulled into the normally very busy carpark to find it completely empty, she couldn't understand why it was empty so proceeded to amuse the kids in the car by driving around & around in circles. They then suddenly saw this guy running towards them, screaming & shouting at them. The car park had been closed for resurfacing & she had just ripped up the freshly laid tarmac, the guy & the rest of the team were not very happy :laugh:

Down the street from my house. the local authority resurfaced about 200m of pavement with hot rolled asphalt.

Given today's lazy motorists who just automatically mount the pavement (:cursing:) with two wheels, despite 'Wet Asphalt' signs, there are now dozens of semi-circular tire tread patterns on the pavement:sad:.

I think the driving test should include basic spelling & reading, like those old 'Jack & Jill' ladybird spelling books? (showing my age).

People don’t care.

It’s in their way so go around it.

Penalties are too soft, anyone doing double the speed limit perma ban, idiots like this fine them harshly and name and shame them.

1/2 the trash or so called people I see don’t even register as fellow humans anymore, just self entitled moronic prat’s, who so people are having the nanny state hold their hands if you follow rules.

Indeed, cant have a rat run, can we? Although the people who've been complaining are happy to drive up whatever street they see fit without a thought for the residents.
I've heard people who live on what was a 'shortcut' around busy roads complain that " We have to go all the way round these closed off roads to get anywhere" despite the fact that they don't get 1,000 cars an hour blasting up their road endangering everyone. :cursing:
