I don't understand what the one saying a branch of Evans this way means.

I agree that some signs aren't logical and that a lot of people don't know their road signs. Are they sure they are going to come up with anything better though?

I knew them all in the picture - although I'll admit I'm never quite sure about the subtleties of the level crossings ones - that train is, I think, level crossing without a barrier? But I'm smart enough to know it's warning of a level crossing, and the barrierness or not of it will become apparent when I get there.

It was in The Sun. I'm amazed some of their readers can remember from day to day which side of the road to drive on.

God forbid, people should be forced to learn things...

The no-explosives one is pretty rare, and I think generally applies to tunnels and such like. I've seen similar in France, and I think it also covered LPG cars or something....

It isn't if they find them confusing ... it is the non logical bits that irritate me... so no turn left ... is in a crossed out red circle whereas No Motor Vehicles doesn't have a line and the one that confuses a lot of people is the No Vehicles sign.

I'm somewhat baffled that the roadworks sign might be regarded as confusing. I would have thought that the survey will bring up that blue positive instructions signs are pretty badly understood by some.

I knew them all  ... the picture of the steam engine means "ungated level crossing", as Arch surmised. A gated level crossing is signed with a picture or, er, a gate.

I like "Oncoming Vehicles in Middle of Road". I always wonder if there's a sign for traffic coming the other way that says "Drive Anywhere You Like".

I guess most of us renew our VED online. Might be fun to have a multiple choice road sign test before you can pay (failure to pay = your motor to be taken to a specified place and banged on its head).

The trick is not to remove the signs but to remove the drivers who don't understand them ...

I saw a sign in Scotland once which I didn't understand. It was a triangular sign with a picture of a horse and cart with a bloke sitting in a wheelchair on the cart. I assume it means "disabled drivers" but why a horse and cart? I've got a photo of it somewhere.

Of course the UK is the only place in the world to use these signs................NOT

Most are universal not only throughout Europe but the whole world.

So what right does some publicity seeking ENGLISH MP have, to arrogantly declare, that he is going to change them.

"But a red circle with a person and a line through it means people are allowed - it's the sign for the end of a no-pedestrian zone. It can be incredibly confusing."

Is this true? Can't see it in the online highway code. I don't think I've ever seen a red circle sign with a line through it being used for the end of anything
