All very good- Just followed the link onto the "Cyclists pay for the roads as well bit-
You are right in the points you put but I am not sure the articles actually delivers anything to show that cyclists pay for the road in any way. Just because what drivers pay is swallowed up in costs does not really relate to cyclists.

The point of that post was that we all pay for the roads, they are paid for out of general taxation, not from this mythical "road tax" which drivers seam to think gives them a greater right to the road. Also see I Pay Road Tax for a fuller exploration of the facts.

I would go on the tack that there are x number of cars out there who do not pay road tax like a bike and of course we do not need huge trunk roads and motorways which take up most of the cost in maintianing.

Are you referring to the VW Polo, Smart Cars etc, which are zero rated for VED or those which don't carry a valid VED tax disc?
