During my ride yesterday I heard a dog 'screaming in pain' up ahead. When I got there a man ( with family and young children watching) had a wire around the dogs neck and was twisting it tight to make a vain stand out and then slash it with a knife so the dog would bleed to death. The dog was obviously bound for the pot. I know we all eat meat (well most of us) but seeing that being done to a dog was not nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ooof, not sure I like the sound of that! Is this quite a common thing to see out on the street of Vietnam?

As you say not nice to see. I'm a great believer in if your willing to eat it you should be willing to kill and butcher it. Over the years I've eaten fish, chicken and rabbit that I killed and prepared but seeing an animal that we would keep as a pet suffering would be upsetting to almost anyone. Hope you don't happen upon this again.

ew sorry you had to witness that - it's horrible... but i guess if you're not raised with keeping dogs as pets then it would be like watching a steer being slaughtered, which is what we used to do when i was growing up...

although, it was sad when our pet milking cow died ... we didn't eat her though... (or at least mum told us we didn't ;)).

I'm not sure the pet aspect would worry me greatly, but the way Keith describes it it sounds like the guy wasn't doing a great job of humanely slaughtering fido. ;)

i would have seriously considered becoming a vegetarian if mum had asked how Daisy had tasted after the meal... mind you, most likely just a serious consideration and that's it.
