I was talking about when I was a kid to a 24 year old and they had never heard of Robinson cruso or huckleberry fin when I asked what books she read at school I was told they had never had to read a book or do a report about it

I tried to read lots once... I got 2 paragraphs in and tossed it in the bin. First time I've ever thrown book out that didn't have pages falling out.

Some kids need a long runway to take off. My older son developed an aversion to reading through a poorly administered reading scheme at primary school. He's now an avid reader of pretty challenging literature both fiction and non-fiction - a 'book for pleasure' free gap of eleven years
