Wilf Turnbull and Derek Philpott are two pensioners who take pop artistes to task over their lyrics... and get some replies too. Some better than others, and obv it helps if you know the songs, but there are some hilarious letter exchanges here: http://www.wilfturnbull.co.uk/
The recent Billy Bragg one is great.
Fun! Of course the original and best is the Henry Root letters - the only book that has had me embarrassing myself by guffawing repeatedly in the middle of a crowded bookshop.

Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield is a personal favourite song of mine but the line "4am in the morning" sets my teeth on edge every time !
I like that – it’s far more honest (and funny) than male singers personalising meaningless love-affairs for a royalty check from PRS. Paul Heaton sung it well in Song for Whoever:

Oh Shirley, Oh Deborah, Oh Julie, Oh Jane, Jennifer, Alison, Phillipa, Sue, Deborah, Annabel too,Oh Cathy, Oh Sue,
I wrote so many songs about you I forget your name.
You made me so much money, I wrote this song for you.
Robbie Williams, of all people, made a similar observation, although it may have been a ghost lyricist?

So write another ballad, mix it on a Wednesday
Sell it on a Thursday buy a yacht on Saturday
It's a love song, a love song
Do another interview, sing a bunch of lies
Tell about celebrities that I despise
And sing love songs, we sing love songs so sincere

Yes' 'Going for the One' always befuddled me. with an opening lyrics of...

"Get the idea, cross around the track
When you reap the flank of a thoroughbred racing chaser
Get the feel as the rhythm flows
Would you like to go and shoot the mountain masses

And here you stand no taller than the grass seas
And should you really chase so hard
The truth of sport plays rings around you"

..and continues with the same level of obscurity until the 'realisation verse' of ..

"Now the verses I've sang don't add much weight to the story in my head
So I'm thinking I should go and write a punchline
But their so hard to find in my cosmic mind
So I think I'll take a look out of the window"

...and then slips back into further waffle and bollocks

It is quite simple 5:30 mins of sheer Prog brilliance  See/Hear for yourself

God yes, Yes. Pick a song, any song:

Don't surround yourself with yourself
Move on back two squares
Send an instant comment to me
Initial it with loving care
(Don't surround yourself)

'Cause it's time is time in time with your time and
It's news is captured... for the queen to use!

Come again?

Brilliant.. in that they foresaw the popularity of text messaging way back in the early 70's

However the true meaning can only be understood if accompanied with copious amounts of chemical/vegetable recreational entertainment products.

I used to take enough of those to count my feet and get to three, and even then I had no idea what Yes were on about.

When Arnold J Rimmer described something as being more indecipherable than Emerson, Lake and Palmer lyrics, he was bang on the money.

Cold and misty morning, I heard a warning borne in the air
About an age of power, where no-one had an hour to spare
Where the seeds have withered, silent children shiver in the cold
Now their faces captured in the lenses of the jackals for gold.

And it doesn't get any better as the song goes on either...

We've got thrills and shocks, supersonic fighting cocks

I really haven't the vaguest idea what's going on. And what does Karn Evil 9 mean anyhow?
