So basically what we’re all agreeing on is that we can’t stand any radio which has a rigid playlist, defined by the programme controller (or more likely the programme controller’s computer) rather than the DJ, with short rotation, where the presenter has no flexibility to vary the playlist, has no need to have any particular knowledge of the track they’re about to play, but is contractually required to be positive and enthusiastic about it.

Unfortunately, that sounds like virtually every “independent” (ha!) station in the UK, and most of the local and BBC stations....

I found the same problem with that. I've been listening to Arrow Classic Rock for years and it's a pretty good alternative (though these days sadly online only). It's from The Netherlands but there's very little talk/ ads.
