Sonisphere cancelled

Ther Sonisphere music festival has been cancelled but they haven't quite explained why blaming it on hard times. But I saw last years on Sky and it seemed to be well attended. Is it that bands are charging too much and are too demanding. I read that it cost something like £15million to get the bands which inflates the ticket prices much like football and I suppose people are voting with their feet. Another thing is that a lot of these festivals depend on getting trade stands and sponsorship and these are going to be a bit thin on the ground. I guess there are too many festivals and there is only so may times you cxan see Foo Fighters, Coldplay and The Kings Of Leon, Metallica and Slayer and Megadeth before people get bored.

I'll beg to differ with you on those two. Seen Metallica 14 times now in the last twenty years, still delivering the goods every time. My usual criteria for festival attendance has been 'where are Metallica playing?'. Usually works very well. As for Slayer, went off them a bit after one less than stellar performance, but back on form the last few times I've seen them.

I've been to all three Sonisphere Knebworths (plus Warsaw 2010), and it's a real shame that they've cancelled. Excellent organisation, decent food options, easy to get to. The line-up this year just wasn't as strong. After a good start in 2009, Rammstein's debut UK festival plus Iron Maiden in 2010, the Big Four plus Slipknot last year, all with strong under-bills, Kiss, act purporting to be Queen and rather a lot of dead wood (IMHO) didn't cut it. I'd have gone for just the Sunday on account of Faith No More (still my favourite band), and Mastodon.

Goodbye and good riddance. They (apparently) never got enough ticket sales. I reckon this is because
1. the tickets were overpriced compared to other festivals this year,
2. They left the announcements until late (and I mean 2 months after they were due to be made - late) and
3. In comparison to Download Festival, the lineup wasn't as good in the opinion of the masses.

I've been to the last two Sonispheres (and enjoyed them thoroughly), and the lineup this year was shocking compared to previous years (admittedly I had an early night last year, because Biffy Clyro wasn't my thing), but that's down to personal taste more than anything else.


I'm happy, on the other hand that Kilomanjaro Live is bringing the Warped tour to the UK.
