These are what you would need without changing anything else, but they are not cheap.

I've also got the sora shifters and have bought a pair of paddle shifter STI left new ultegra triple from chain reaction for £41 ( a good buy I believe they still have them) and right 105 from ebay for £30.
The thing is during the 3-4 weeks its taken me to aquire the new levers I've actually grown to love the Sora ones as TBH I rarely shift my hands from the hoods.
The thing I cant stand about them is the braking but I'm not sure if that's anything to do with the levers as I've upgraded my brakes canti's to 105 too( £45 merlin cycles for a pair).
Has anyone else found poor braking with Sora levers or is it down to the wet weather we are having? Sorry if I've taken the thread off at a tangent?

I get on fine with the shifters but I think your right about the poor braking.you really need to pull hard.

Have you tried to put the rubber shims on the levers? The thickest lessens the reach by 8degs. Bringing the levers closer to the bars, making them easier to pull. They usually come with two sets. 4degs and 8degs.
£30 for the RH 105 shifter from eBay. That was a bargain? Was it new?

I found that the thumb shifting arrangement is really clunky and jerky on the upshift compared to the 105 ones that I have now. They are pricey, but the shifting is almost seamless.

So do you think it was worth it ? I dont really have a problem with the sora groupet, just not keen on shifters. But what is the other benefits ?
The groupset isn't the problem, it's just the thumb shifters you need to change if you want a 200% improvement in shifting. My opinion though. That's just how I found it after I changed mine.

Daft point but with the brakes have you wound them up to take in the brake pad going down, I find mine really good. Only a bit less powerful than my ultegra jobbies.
(If it's stupid comment apologies but I did it to mine and they work well)

I've got thumb shifters on my Campag Centaur x10 groupset. I love them. Can ride on hoods or drops and change with no issue, just wondering why Sora thumb shifters are so much more of an apparent problem.

It's just that riding in the drops means you have to change your hand position to change up. As opposed to finger clicking up and down without moving your hands.

The Campag shifters are lower down I believe so it's possible to shift in the drops. Old Sora you'd need freakishly long thumbs to do it!

Is this your first road bike? I experienced the same issue when I first got my Kona - just needed to man up I guess :P
Nowadays I can skid stop from the hoods easy as anything but on the test ride I was in the drops grabbing fistfuls in a desperate bid to stop the bike going downhill! The first upgrade should brake pads IMHO - these were highly recommended on CC and doubled my stopping power: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/clarks-55mm-caliper-brake-shoe/rp-prod55815

Have improved my braking no end by fitting some some kool stop BMX pads! fitted this afternoon and they seem much better just makes me realise I could have prob used old tektro canti's instead of replacing with the 105's! a case of upgradeitis I am afraid. With respect to the previous post I actually had some clark ones as described but as I said upgradeitis took over I got the Barclaycard bill this afternoon to show the error of my ways...
