Sorry but another which HT for a newbie...

Hi,

I am completely new to the MTB scene and I have been researching as much as possible for which one to go for, but its difficult to find the 2010 reviews yet.

I have narrowed it down to the following four bikes (probably in this order) and would appreciate your thoughts as to which to go for, or which to avoid. I am also open to any other advice for one I haven't looked at. I am loooking to spend around £500 - £600 max.

It will primarliy be ridden on soft trails, canal paths and road.

All four of the bikes are very similar in spec and value. The Genesis stands out from teh others in terms of styling for me, but teh gears, forks and brakes of all the bikes are similar in terms of quality and competence, and all are ideal for the use you describe.

Before you decide also look at Decathlon Rockrider 8.1, stunning componentry for the money http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/rockrider-8-1-66759353/. considered by the snobs to be a bit naff, but with a RockShox Torah fork and SRAM gearing is a step above your four here for a hundred quid less. You'll find similar offerings from Carrera, Cube Attention http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=44340
and GT for the money.

If you can get a test ride then do, but it may all come down to the one with the paintwork which looks trickest to you. On looks and quality I'd go for the Cube Attention or Genesis, but that's me!
