1st.....thank you for the advice re a soundbar.....that's now narrowed down to a choice of 2.

BUT........
My old cassette/dvd player is sooooo old AND it's massive.
I've got no cassettes so, I will get a blueray for CDs & DVDs. I know nothing about them.
I dont have many DVDs so dont want to pay more the necessary.
I see them from £30+ to £hundreds.
Again, any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

Assuming your going to play the CD on the blue ray via the TV & sound bar (versus it going into an amp an speaker set up) then not worth spending a great deal, go close to the £30 end.

Blueray is the past already

I meant future proofing his purchases. Blueray will play all physical media you can buy current films on. DVD does not.

That is the plan.
I had (technically still own) a good hifi system and miss it. So a good sound bar will replace that.

We have cupboards full of cd's and DVD's, but never play them anymore. Rely on streaming services for music and films.

My daughter's have both got rid of all their cd's and DVD's as well, but one of them now has a "Record Player"!
