I'm intrigued, but 8hrs to go 60 miles on a flat route with no traffic? I'm assuming we all try to stay together in a group at the pace of the slowest?

Sorry if I'm coming across as an asshat but I'm thinking I'll freeze to death at that pace.

That's why preparation is essential: http://fridaynightridetothecoast.blogspot.co.uk/p/the-basics.html

No one has ever frozen to death on a FNRttC. Water bottles, yes (and yes, that was Southend) but humans, no.

Wot @User13710 said. Layer-up well, and if you're getting cold, do some waymarking. Think of it as interval training...

There's a stop of at least an hour half way, we arrive a bit before 8am usually, and the ride doesn't constantly stay as one group but spreads out and re-forms with stops to regroup. Faster riders chug up and down doing waymarking and going back up to the front to do it again. It's a group support role. The usual pace for slow people like me is an average of about 11.5mph, which is touring pace. If you want a chaingang it might not be for you.

Fair enough - what happens once we arrive? Breakfast then head home? It's about 40 miles to get home for me, but I suppose I'll be shattered without having had any sleep. 2hrs and three changes on the trains...hmm.
