Day 1 of our Spanish tour
Malaga to Ronda.
This was always going to be a tough day with more ups then downs, having to climb up valleys and a mountain pass.
It didn't start well for me suffering from a migraine. But plenty of fluids and some painkillers helped. By the time we had stopped at Casarabonella for first drinks break it had abated. Good thing too as that was when the major climbs started. And what stunning climbs they were. Ever upwards through forests, fabulous rock formations, valleys and ever more stunning views. Our second break stop was at the mountain town of El Burgo, where we all fancied a beer but it seems the whole towns population were in all the bars, it was far too busy everywhere. So we had to make do with a garage coke cola. Oh well.
Ever onwards and upwards the climbing became harder and hotter with temps topping out at 35.6° It felt hotter in the direct sun and there was very little shade. We finally reached the mountain pass of Puerto del Viento and from there it was a long, winding downhill all the way to the town of Ronda. We we are staying.
To say we are knackered is an understatement.
A deserved beer beckons.
Scores on the doors
53.21 miles
Over 6000ft of climbing including one mountain pass
3789 of descent

Day 2
After a leisurely brekkie in the beautiful finca we booked for the night, we pootled into the town of Ronda to have a nose at its spectacular gorge. We've been here on a cycle tour before and it was just as fab as we remembered
Today's route was shorter and less climby then yesterdays effort, but there was still plenty of tough and long climbs to contend with. But we were lucky to have had some spectacular long descents. Rolling down from Ronda and a 10 mile mountain hairpin descent from the white wash mountain village of Grazelema, our halfway stop where lunch and beer was had, ending at the pretty town of El Bosque
Thankfully it wasnt so hot, temps only reaching 30°
Tomorrow we are heading for the town of Moron de la Frontera.
So, 34 miles for the day
3000ft of climbing with two mountain passes, and 4300 of descent.
Sometimes, cycling days don't get better, and this was one of those.

Wonderful cycling through the Sierra de Grazalema. The other road that comes out near Ubrique is great as well.

Day 3 of our Spanish Tour.
El Bosque to Moron de la Frontera.
I honestly thought today's ride was going to be tougher then yesterday's. Longer mileage and more climbing. But looks can be deceiving.
We rolled out of El Bosque after a typical Spanish brekkie just feeling the cold as the sun had only just risen. From the start the roads were rolling, up and down and up and down. Nothing really taxing in the old legs apart from one 14%er of which I had to stop halfway to admire the view. Honest guv.
This was a two beer stop today as the temperatures really ramped up with the thermometer showing a maximum of 37.8°. It was hot and hard work climbing out of a valley in that heat. So the beers were deserved. After the valley and gorge the last 10 miles presented some of the most fabulous riding I've ever had the pleasure of. Rolling, sweeping roads and bends with great tarmac under tyre, the bike and the miles just seemed to fly by. Ending up at our stop for the night, Moron de la Frontera..
So.
43.93 miles for the day
3789 ft of climbing.
Time for food and another beer

Loving the helmets, will you wear them for the old cars? I know it's Spanish law but you and Ross just look weird with them

Thanks for bringing back memories of the area around Ronda. Loved sitting on the terrace of the parador òverlooking the gorge
