Hello all,

I have spoken to my bike fit technician and he had recommended I buy a gel insole for my shoes as I am getting cramp and a burning sensation in one of my feet.

My question is really which insole should I buy and can it be done online or should I go to a cycle shop and try them first???? I am thinking head to a shop and see what will work, a good manufacture and average price would pay would help me to make a decision.

Thanks all....

You need to know the shape of your foot and degree of pronation, flat footedness

..surprised the bike fitter didn't see you a pair? Go back and ask him what it is you need.
Or pay to see a podiatrist.
My physio got me a pair of these (£33 which Bupa kindly paid), for walking as opposed to cyycling. BUT you still need to know what sort you need

They aren't gel though, they are stiff

I have a pair of the specialized ones in my cycling shoes, about £25 but again, there are 3 types so as above...

Be warned proper custom orthotics cost about £300.

To add, did the bike fitter make sure your cleats are correctly positioned, with the right float and what not?

Yea he did my cleats. I have a bad case of drop foot in the foot in question so the next step in believe0 Iis to get some insoles to help relieve the pressure.

I don't think Gel insoles would help , I use Gel insoles in my shoes but it is more to stop road vibrations than for support , think you might need proper Insoles as Gel is not a very supportive material.

The specialized ones come in 3 sizes , you just put your feet on the heat detector pad in the shop and it shows you what colour you need . Have to say its the best £20 I've spent in a long time .

I would guess most specialized dealers . My LBS deals with specialized and has gadgets to measure shoes , insoles and a bum measurer for saddles .
