Specialised sirrus seat post bottoms out!

Hi

I am trying to adjust the hight of my seat on my specialised sirrus as it the flat of my big toe just touches the floor barefoot, I went for a medium bike and tried it in a store it felt ok in my shoes but now I feel id like to drop the seat about 1-2cm.

The seat post is however right down it bottoms out on the bottle cage nut thread and won't go further is it safe to cut about 1 inch off the bottom so I have a little more adjustment, there is about 4 inch sticking out left from the seat tube as you can see in the picture below

If you can touch the floor, when sitting on the saddle, your saddle is far too low. Should be raised by about 3" for an efficient riding position. You just have to learn how to slide on/off the saddle when starting and stopping.

As said above, your seat is too low.
Calling @Rickshaw Phil for a detailed explanation, but trust us on this.
Try setting the saddle so that the heel of your foot is at 6 o'clock (leg extended) on the pedal.
As you pedal with the ball of your foot, this will result in a slight bend of your knees when pedaling.
Then practice sliding down the saddle on stopping, jumping back up on starting.
Much better for your knees comfort

If you follow Pat's instructions and still need the saddle that low, the bike is too big.

Thanks for your replys, the seat post is at it lowest possible setting, I have tried this:

In shoes heal on pedal my kneecap is straight out in 6 o clock seat post all the way down, then moving to the ball of my foot in 6 o clock I have a slight bend in my knee all is seems correct in what your saying my leg exactly does that just with the seat post down fully, when I come to a stop though i'm nearly on my toes when sat on the saddle

The bike shop said I medium they wanted me on a large at first I'm 173cm tall 30'' leg I'm in-between med-lrg on specialises chart. I tried a small that seemed ok but cramped he said the medium was fine could always take a cm off the stem because there was still more (4inch) stuckign out the stem tube if its causing trouble so with that information I ordered the model i wanted (in medium) online as the bike shop never had stock of the elite.

When you come to a stop you need to be out of the saddle, top tube between your legs.
Slide down from the saddle (it takes a bit of practice), lean the bike over a bit, have your left foot on the ground, your right on the pedal ready to push off.
Takes a little bit of "jumping down" at first, with practice you will slide down elegantly

I do touch it but I feel I could raise my seat more. It seems I have to practise that sliding down as well. Sometimes it is a bit of a problem stopping when on a raise/steep as it is more difficult to touch the ground. I just need to get more confident with my bike (sorry for hijacking the topic).

A couple of weeks ago I was in a group ride, the lady in front of me stopped suddenly on a hill so I had to stop suddenly behind her. Well I jumped out of my seat and on top of my tube. My lady bits hurt for a week after that

P.S. BTW I'm with the same model, but it looks different. What year is yours?

Yes, been there, done that, I go out quite a lot with beginners groups.
Try to be the first or the last on getting uphill to avoid collision, practice dropping the bike a bit on stopping.
Frames with a dropped top tube are much better for saving your lady bits.
