Anyone traded in one of their old helmet? Specialised are offering upto 50% off on certain models and 30-40% for the rest.

Im considering trading in my 2016/2017 Kask Mojito that has seen better days for a Echelon II MIPS. The Echelon does look a little cheaper compared to my Mojito back in its hay day but then again I somehow feel as if its not really something that can be an apples to apples comparison. The Echelon is newer, has MIPs and probably better molding/construction compared to a 2016/17 helmet. Or am i wrong??

If BalfesBikes gives me 40% off the Echelon, I'll be paying another £48 on top.

But at the same time, I was looking at replacing my Mojito with the CARNAC PODIUM SL or the CROIX SL from PlanetX for £20 when they come back in stock anyway.

Id be interested in hearing your thoughts.

(Nothing wrong with my Mojito apart from the pads are absolutely knackered and the leather strap under the neck is well worn in.)

Don't buy stuff you don't need it just fuels environmental waste, enforces the myth daily cycling is some how dangerous and continues to provide marketeers to come up with more pointless cack 'must haves' in order to ride a bike.

It seems to me @RoubaixCube has established and explained their 'need' for a replacement helmet. We've all had pads deteriorating beyond the point of soldiering on.
The merit or not of wearing a helmet belongs in its 'special' thread.
Provided a helmet has not had a substantial bang, the waste you eschew could be mitigated by the ready availability for sale of pads (sensibly priced) and chin strap wrap for every helmet (or even including a set with every helmet sold).

I have a Kask Mojito and its on its 3rd set of replacement pads and now needs another set as my missus reckons it stinks. ( She's right it does ) They are around 18 quid. However my chin strap seems fine. I find after washing a few times the velcro goes in the pads. If I had a unloved helmet I would be tempted to trade in but my other 2 mtb helmets are in fine fettle.

I've considered replacing the pads but for £18-20 a pop I feel that the specialized scheme is a lot more worthwhile and value for money.

I get something new with another fancy gimmick (mips)

The leather chin strap is not replaceable. Kask don't sell spares of those

Have you confirmed the Specialized fits?
I have a Mojito shaped head but a prior Echelon was never a great fit and was quite mushroomy!
Try before you buy :okay:
As you say, MIPS seems to be more a gimmick than a tangible benefit, but it’s your dosh

I looked at them as I'm about to get a new helmet anyway, but the Prevail seems to be completely out of stock, and weight matters a lot to me (not a weight weenie, just neck hurts 10 hours in to a ride!). So I think I'm going to stick with the previous idea of MET Trenta 3k carbon.

If prevail comes back in stock though, I will definitely reconsider that!

Not yet. Not had a chance to stop off at a participating shop to try it on.

Its an in store only scheme. Unless nimkii is local to sigma. They won't be able to get the discount for the trade in
s/he said the Prevail is OOS, it appears not to be at Sigma (mentioned another brand so maybe the discount is not a decisive factor)
