Another thing Speedplay offer is an optional longer axle (for more money). Someone I know always felt he was riding pigeon toed until he got these, not my problem but that option is out there.
As for colour the lime green ones are often cheaper for obvious reasons..

I got cromo speedplays, then spent an extra whopping £25 for a pair of titanium axles from China. They fit perfectly, it's a very simple swap, and it makes the £299 for the ti speedplays seem like gouging.

I was also buying new shoes, too, so I went the whole hog and bought Northwaves that theoretically had speedplay compatible soles. This involves lifting up the inner sole, removing the 3 hole adapter, and pushing in a Speedplay 4 hole adapter. This was not so simple, and involved about 45 minutes with a sharp knife and a screwdriver per shoe. But the end result is a sub 1mm extra stack, instead of 4 or so, which means a super low stack height. This is good for me as I am not as flexible as I used to be, so the lower my saddle can be, the higher my bars are relatively speaking.

Anyway, I really like the speedplays. They feel very secure, are super easy to clip into compared to Looks (imagine SPD easiness), easy to clip out. But the free float takes a bit of getting used to and you need to carry some covers. Cleat wear doesn't seem so bad if you are wearing covers, and I used to grind through a pair of Look cleats in 4 months or so.

Why doe the float feel odd?. I use spd and find they float a fair bit. The only issue i have is hot foot after 40 miles, even with very good shoes.(RT82)

When you twist with SPDs there's a little resistance. These just rotate until the limit.

I think some people just get hot foot, me included. Though I find if I make a conscious effort to weigh my left foot when idling I get it quite a bit later.
