I do indeed. And ended up working at a book wholesalers for a while who used to sell them (this was in the mid 80's.)

The 'Commando' comics. They were fairly dreadful, but when you were a kid they were great! Do they still make them?

Heck, so there is! I suppose with the current patriotism with Help For Heroes and all that means that the comics must be more popular than ever!
I know next to nothing about aeroplanes, but have always wondered, if Spitfire and Hurricanes make grown men go all funny and weak, why has not some enterprising person built replicas? Surely if, during the war they were thrown together, cheaply and quickly, in hastily adapted and converted factories, they could be built today. There are plenty of rich people who love boy's toys, look at sales of supercars, and of yachts, speedboats etc. Why not these almost universally loved aircraft?

Try this for size: Spitfire Replica. The V6 supercharged version has almost the right sound.

Because replicas are crap. Having worked on restoring a couple of spitfires, there is no way you could replicate the complexity & sheer awesomeness.

Why should this be so? If the original blueprints were used, a replica could be made EXACTLY the same?
This is just nonsense, surely. If semi-trained girls built them in 1940, they could be be built today.
And it's not if people buying the replicas would really have any chance of comparing to the originals.

I'm not saying they cant be built, what I'm saying is why would they be built? They are not built to blueprints (90% of the size) & they are built with v6 or v8 engines. It just wouldn't be the same. Maybe it's just my pov from working on the originals.
