Might not be worn out crankarm. Many folks have bought bikes and hardly used them. I bought a 97 hybrid a while ago - it had gone hardly anywhere in the intervening years. All as new. One of the tyres did explode as soon as I pumped it though - 20 years of it sitting in a garage didn't do it any favours

Ime the tyres and the 'V' brake noodles are the four items that invariably need replacing. And the cables if they're not stainless steel.

Agree about cables - anything that can rust if left stood. Though rust can be cleaned off many things* - intrigued by the V brake noodles though - why?

* I know this as I have one of those 97 hybrids from new - much neglected for many years - hence me buying a new/old/virgin other one for it is a good bike - and after 15 to 20 years I thought I had better check the headset and forks. A bit of a state but all cleaned up.
