Geoff Hurst and Tom Simpson during my schooldays, then Alex "Hurricane" Higgins in later years. If there was one sportsman I'd have crawled ten miles on my hands and knees to see it would have been Higgins.

When you watched him playing he was terrible at positioning and made ever shot so hard but still managed to clear up

Daley owes me a few joysticks. One snapped clean off on the final bend of the 1500 when I was on for the world record. You had to put in a proper shift on that game!

As soon as i saw the OP i had a flashback to playing DT's Decathlon on the Spectrum... it wans't an easy game until i sussed out the method of putting one finger between two keys and wobbling it, rather than frantic key tapping or joystickery... piece of cake after that

for me... childhood sporting hero was Bjorn Borg.

I had the 16k version with the 32k add on which fell off if you wobbled , did complete jet-pac though

Puzzle game procrastinator!
Apart from one year of football (World Cup 1966!), I was not interested in sport until July 1989 when I was 33 and Greg Lemond caught my eye on the Channel 4 evening Tour de France highlights. The tension built and built until an amazing last day time trial ...

It inspired me to rush out, buy a bike and get back into cycling. I am still at it 25 years later - thanks Greg!

Oh, and thanks to Laurent Fignon too - RIP!
