but it does lead you by the nose to go on a ride that somebody else has designed, signposted so that you don't have to navigate your way around yourself or get lost, and provided (usually inclusive) refreshments on. So it's just a way of getting you to commit to yourself to not only have a ride but see a part of the country that you would not otherwise have gone to.
Total sense Bonj... I have only done a couple this year (had to cancel one today due to my stupid weak a*sed back B)) but they do encourage you to go on rides you would not normally do and where i do enjoy just riding and navigating by instinct it is great to do a set route that is signposted/marshalled once in a while. Plus there is the extra motivation of a bit of training to build up to the longer/more difficult ones.
